Just when it looked like the Colorado Rockies were well on their way to redefining the word "pitiful," the team has done the seemingly impossible: won five games in a row, including yesterday's 5-2 victory over the St. Louis Cardinals. But before you start digging out your 2007 World Series gear, get some perspective from the reliable Purple Row blog. In a piece previewing the start of the Major League Baseball draft, the scribe who writes as Poseidon's Fist (hope he doesn't get capsized) offers a couple of reasons to temper overenthusiasm. Point one: "The last five games have been played at a ridiculously unsustainable level. Less sustainable than the giant pile of suck that was April and May." Point two: There are currently ten National League teams in front of the Rockies, and just two behind -- the Arizona Diamondbacks, who trail by just half a game, and the epically pathetic Washington Nationals, who've managed just fifteen Ws this season. In the end, PF concludes, "Enjoy the hot streak, just don't set yourself up to get your heart broken."
