Taking its name from something crazy Gary Busey said during his short-lived television series, I’m With Busey, Iwrestledabearonce doesn’t bother fitting into a specific musical genre. On the surface, the members of this sextet from Shreveport, Louisiana, are heirs to the spastic, experimental grindcore/death-metal hybrid that was the Locust. Singer Krysta Cameron lays down the brutal grind vocals with abandon, and the rest of the members play like they’re in Napalm Death. However, most of the group’s songs contain a section where everyone shifts into a melodic, almost R&B-flavored interlude reminiscent of Gang Gang Dance doing a lounged-out impression of Yes. A remarkably powerful and fiery live act, Iwrestledabearonce is bringing its eclectic brand of musical mayhem to town in support of its debut full-length, It’s All Happening — which sums up the band’s musical assault nicely.

At Westword, we’re small and scrappy — and we make the most of every dollar from our supporters. Right now, we’re $22,750 away from reaching our December 31 goal of $50,000. If you’ve ever learned something new, stayed informed, or felt more connected because of Westword, now’s the time to give back.
