As clearly evidenced by their two previous releases, vibraphonist and pianist Greg Harris and his quintet have mastered the art of the groove. While Harris and company dig in on a few tracks, such as "Two Few Minutes Dive" and Blue Heron," on their latest effort, Glass Gold, they step outside the pocket and into more expansive territory on quite a few others, including the dreamy opener, "Northside Hunter," and the wistful "Turn the Sun," both of which feature supremely divine vocals from Venus Cruz, who sings on more than half of the songs and is a welcome addition to the previously instrumental unit. Glass Gold is just that: a collection of songs each worth their weight, yet reflective at the same time.
