If ever there were an indie-rock Cinderella story, MGMT could be cast in the lead role. Starting out as The Management when Ben Goldwasser and Andrew VanWyngarden were in their first year at Wesleyan University, this project had already been around for a few years by the time it toured with Of Montreal in 2005. The past few years of opening for M.I.A., Beck, Radiohead and Paul McCartney — an avowed fan — helped propel the band further into the spotlight. Its most recent album, Congratulations, produced by Pete Kember of Spacemen 3, is a hypnotic mélange of ELO’s synthy sweetness, Of Montreal’s eccentric remake and remodel of glam rock, and music you’d expect to hear in a retro-futuristic ballroom scene straight out of Brazil. Perfect material for what should be a great show at Red Rocks.

If you’ve ever learned something new, stayed informed, or felt more connected because of Westword, now’s the time to give back.
