At last year’s Fringe Festival, Boulder-based TinHouse Experimental Dance Theatre‘s site-specific experiential Pick of the Fringe performance in a parking lot, Under the Hood, could’ve been subtitled “Dances with Cars.” This year, the troupe is fixated on Eating and Dreaming.

Conceived and choreographed by TinHouse artistic director Joanna Rotkin, the new work is literally based on a dream in which the leftovers of a feast are duct-taped to the table and dumped in the snow, and on a fable about the difference between heaven and hell. In the latter, both have self-replenishing tables of food with long spoons offered as utensils. In hell, no one can feed themselves because the spoons are too long; in heaven, the denizens feast heartily by using them to feed one another. Now try to imagine all of that acted out.

The food-frenzied denouement of that unusual combination unfolds tonight at 7 p.m. at Exhibitrek the Gallery, 1711 15th Street in Boulder. There are five more performances continuing through August 26. Admission is $8 to $12 (or by donation tonight only); log on to www.boulderfringe.com for showtimes and tickets.
