What if everyone reading this sent me random words to incorporate into next week’s piece? Maybe “pimply chickens,” “East L.A.” and “diamond-studded toilet plungers” could define my day at the computer. Sounds tough, right? How about filming, acting, scoring and editing a movie in front of a live audience, or improvising a play starting from two chairs arranged by an audience member, or constructing your day around words drawn from a fish bowl, or singing original songs on command?
Sounds like a crazy scenario to most of us, but to the players of the Denver Improv Festival, craziness is just another day’s work. Starting tonight at 7:30 p.m. at the Avenue Theatre, 417 East 17th Avenue, and continuing Friday and Saturday at several other venues, the Improv Fest spans the quick-witted imaginations of sixteen groups from across the country.
According to Linda Klein, media contact for the DIF, there are “a variety of different groups. Some do comedy, some do music — there’s even a group from Phoenix that improvises a movie on stage.
