When cops from the Aurora Police Department and officers from the Colorado Department of Corrections converge tonight at the DIA Holiday Inn, 15500 East 40th Avenue, it won’t be to transfer a high-risk inmate or make a huge arrest. They’re getting together for the first Let the Jailhouse Rock boxing match, and they plan to beat each other’s asses.
“I think people like to see cops get bounced and punched around,” says Jim Seneca, recruiting officer for the Aurora Police Department. “But there’s also a lot of competitiveness between departments.”
The event, which will raise money for Cops Fighting Cancer and the Richard Montoya Memorial Fund, features ten bouts, theater seating, a concession stand and bar, and both a silent and live auction. Tickets are $16 in advance, $20 at the door, with VIP passes available for $60. Doors open at 5:30 p.m.; showtime is at 6:30. Get more information at www.copsfightingcancer.org.
Fri., Sept. 15, 6:30 p.m.
