Tyra Banks without the word “fierce” is like Paris Hilton without “That’s hot.” Celebrities co-opting colloquialisms is an absurd alliteration, but it’s an even more ridiculous marketing ploy. So turn off the E! and find some cheap entertainment tonight at Fierce Sunday at Club Evolution, 821 22nd Street — where real boys looking like real women get hot and fierce. Every Sunday, the club dolls itself up and hosts a two-hour variety show with some of the city’s most recognizable female impersonators. The extravaganza, barely a month old, has been growing steadily and boasts about twelve rotating performers doing their best Aretha Franklin swaggers, Beyoncé humps and Kelly Clarkson smiles. Host Krystal Towers — who’s held such prissy-tigious titles as Miss Gay Colorado and Miss Entertainer of the Year — glosses on lipstick and trots out some of her favorite high-heeled gals, including Tracy Edwards, Taylor Made, Britney Swears, Ginger Sexton, Tyler Blu, Kandi Towers, Imajae and Cee Cee Russell. “It’s a female illusion show,” explains Towers. “We do lip synching and impersonations. There’s a lot of stuff going on. But it’s X-rated, so it’s not for the timid-hearted. We talk nasty. We talk real nasty.”
The show starts promptly at 8 p.m. on the bottom level of the two-story club. Cover is a measly $5, with drink specials that sometimes include free shots during the performance. Sorry, kids; it’s 21-and-over only. Get glittery at www.evolutiondenver.com or call 303-296-4604.
