SP Double is one of those rappers who lives, sleeps and eats hip-hop. On Change the Station, SP’s long-gestating debut, he pulls double duty, rhyming and producing the bulk of the cuts. His passion for the music comes through loud and clear on tracks such as the up-tempo party starter “Struggle and Strive,” on which he spells out his dedication to his craft. Elsewhere, “Where Do I Begin,” “Change the Station” and “Put Your Mic Up” feature some of the best beats and flow to come out of the local scene. The downside, if there is one, is that at a whopping 23 songs, with none of them under four minutes, the disc is a bit overwhelming. There are a handful of filler and instrumental tracks that would have been much better served on a separate EP. Otherwise, Change is completely refreshing.
