Greg Gallagher didn’t quite get the lights on by the end of 2009, as he’d hoped, but it looks like Gaslamp, his new tavern at 1437 Market Street, will be opening by this weekend.
Gallagher put the extra time to good use: The space, which is under the original Westword office at 1439 Market, has held offices, a futon store, even an adult toy store back in the ’70s, but it required a major remodel to turn into this sleek restaurant/bar. He had to find a name for the place (the Gaslamp is not related to Lakewood’s now-snuffed Gaslamp Grill;the original liquor-license application for this space simply called it “Ten.”) And Gallagher, who also owns the nearby Front Porch, had to work out a “good neighbor” agreement with LoDo residents concerned about the number of liquor licenses in the area.
Now they can start worrying about the number of dispensaries in the area instead: Down the street at 1400 Market, Farmacy is taking over the old Buca de Beppo space. That should make Gaslamp’s future on the block look a lot brighter.
