Independent Journalism in Denver Needs You
We need to raise $25,000 by August 9 to support the reporting our community depends on. Reader support keeps us independent and is playing a larger role in funding local journalism and shaping what comes next. If you believe independent local journalism matters, make a contribution today.
Heather Nova, Friday, October 6, with Ben Folds Five, at the Mercury Cafe, has one of those voices that makes you forget everything else around you. On her current Columbia/Work CD, Oyster, Nova’s singing, which recalls both the belting of the Cranberries’ Dolores O’Riordan and the wailing of Sinead O’Connor, is wisely placed at the center of the mix. But while the disc’s success is due in part to Nova’s ability to co-opt the styles of others, she’s at her best on traditional pop-rock numbers such as the hit single “Walk This World.” This will be Heather Nova’s only Colorado appearance on her current tour, but rest assured: With talent like hers, she’ll be back soon.
