The only thing better than eating a fresh, gooey s’more is eating one for a good cause.

On Thursday, July 2, Metro Denver Promotion of Letters, a nonprofit offering tutoring and writing services for children, teams up with Forest Room 5 to bring you a night of s’more-making and fundraising to benefit MDPL’s week-long summer writing camps for kids and teens, offered free-of-charge for all participants.

“The interest in these camps has been astounding, even to me,” says MDPL director Amanda Lueck. “Both camps are booked full, and kids seem to really be intrigued and excited about the way we’re choosing to combine writing with new experiences — field trips and new assignments, games and peer review.”

Support local news on #GivingNewsDay

Today is #GivingTuesday. We in the news business like to think of it as #GivingNewsDay. We’re aiming to raise $50,000 by December 31, so we can continue covering what matters most to this community. If you value our work, we hope you’ll consider making a contribution to our newsroom today.

$50,000

Help them out by building the ultimate campfire concoction over Forest Room 5’s fire pits.  S’mores components — including traditional graham crackers, marshmallows and chocolate, as well as more exotic berries and Rolos — will be available for $1 per serving, or you can just toss in $4 for a classic s’more combo.

They’re hoping this “S’more-Raiser” will help pull in some cash for the camps and future programming.  Donations sans s’mores will also be accepted and are tax-deductible.

What:   S’more-Raiser for Metro Denver Promotion of Letters
When:  Thursday, 5 to 10 p.m. July 2
Where:  Patio of Forest Room 5, 2532 15th Street
