Just received word from Erica Brown that her namesake band, which has been a staple on the blues scene for the past decade, is calling it a day. The act has a dozen more dates booked, including one this evening for Band on the Bricks on the Pearl Street Mall from 7-9 p.m., that will culminate with a final gig on Saturday, September 13 at Oskar Blues in Lyons.

“From our beginnings in 1998 with Tommy Butters and Scott Rivera (the other founding members of the EBB), to our end with Jon Woodhead and Randy Thompson, it’s been one hell of a party!” writes Brown of the group’s decision to disband. “So many of you have helped us in so many ways over these years, and we love you for it and will never forget that it has been YOU who have made us what we are. But, with new horizons to look forward to, and new opportunities to pursue, we felt this was the best time to wrap up this chapter in our lives.”

Brown’s daughter MJ will be joining the band for its last dates, and the sultry front woman has also set up a MySpace page to keep fans abreast of her future endeavors. Wherever her and the other members of the Erica Brown Band end up, it’s bound to be compelling. — Dave Herrera
