Prince told us to party like it was 1999 but those of us that were around at the time know it never really got better than 1998. That was the year tech house started to take over and Denver’s house music scene coalesced into something special. The folks of Denver House Authority certainly know it, and last year they resurrected the time with Knockin’, an old-school warehouse party celebrating tech house’s heyday. That party was a blast. All night, it was just two turntables, a mixer and a stack of old vinyl records – no CDs, no laptops and amazingly, no attitudes.
If you missed it, you get another chance tomorrow, when DHA busts out Knockin’ 2. This year it’s a Denver vs. Pittsburgh theme (Pittsburgh had a tech house scene? Who knew?) and they are bringing in Paul Alexander and Aaron Clark from the Steel City to play alongside DHA regulars Brandon Bass, Joey M and Issac H. The 21 and up event is a $10 donation if you can make it in before midnight, $20 after and they are offering complimentary adult beverages to patrons. Want to go?
