Photographer Ian Shives has added more than 40 stunning new images for the paperback edition of his hit 2009 coffee table tome The National Parks: Our American Landscape, many of them shot while on assignment for National Parks Magazine. Tough gig, right? Actually… Ask him about the extreme conditions, ranging from 100 mile per hour winds to 50-below zero temperatures, under which he got some of those dramatic shots when he stops by Boulder’s Neptune Mountaineering tonight at 8 p.m. to sign copies of his book and share stories and slides.

The book, published by Earth Aware Editions and presented by the National Parks Conservation Association and the International League of Conservation Photographers, is full of masterful panoramic landscapes that will spark your wanderlust with a nice reminder that there are 391 National Park sites — 17 of them right here in Colorado — just waiting for you and your camera.

A portion of sales of the book ($24.95 in the new paperback edition) goes toward protecting those places in conjunction with the National Parks Conservation Association.
