Get ready for a DJ battle like no other as Denver’s top DJs square off and switch styles. Swap Meet will pair trance and house DJs with drum-and-bass and dubstep DJs who will then exchange record bags and try to spin a freestyle set without rehearsal or preparation. For added fun, promoter Brandon Butler of One Productions has asked the DJs to dress up in their own (and, most likely, greatly exaggerated) interpretation of their opposites’ style — giant pants and Hello Kitty backpacks for the temporary trancers, for example, or sideways baseball caps and skateboards for the day-tripping dubsteppers. Fans of the various genres are encouraged to boo mercilessly if the other side’s DJ can’t cut it — all in good fun, of course. It should be a ridiculous change-of-pace night full of trainwrecks, belly laughs and unique interpretations of familiar styles.
The event starts at 9 p.m. Tickets are $5 if purchased in advance; $10 at the door if you’re on the SoCo or One Productions text-message list; and $15 otherwise. For ticket and venue information, go to www.oneproductionsonline.com or call 303-480-8423.
