As announced in December, Arapahoe Basin is replacing the 32-year-old Exhibition triple chair in its first high-speed quad this summer. The resort decided to name it with a contest and got some interesting ideas from the peanut gallery. We have a winner.

The winning name, from Mark La Flamme of the resort’s maintenance department: Black Mountain Express. Not bad.

From an A-Basin press release:

The new, high speed quad chairlift that will be constructed this summer at Arapahoe Basin has found a name – Black Mountain Express. Alan Henceroth, COO of A-Basin, put a call out to A-Basin aficionados to help name the lift. He received hundreds of suggestions from “Quadzilla” to “Chairway to Heaven.” After much contemplation and days of looking through suggestions by A-Basin management, some of them very entertaining, “Black Mountain Express” won the crown.

We’re thankful for you. Are you thankful for us?

We feel thankful for our staff and for the privilege of fulfilling our mission to be an unparalleled source of information and insight in Denver. We’re aiming to raise $50,000 by December 31, so we can continue covering what matters most to this community.
Help us continue giving back to Denver.

$50,000

Now while Black Mountain Express is not bad, and Quadzilla is pretty bad, I think I would have gone with Chairway to Heaven. But then Robert Plant would have sued me for everything I’m worth ($868.31).
