The Beating is an annual amateur ski and snowboard film festival held annually in Silverton. The 2010 edition came and went on the second day of the year, with Telluride’s Ben Knight emerging victorious with Scattered Flurries, embedded above. In just under four minutes, he captures the wordless zen of a perfect powder day.

Here’s a blurb on the Beating from Snowboard Magazine:

We’re thankful for you. Are you thankful for us?

We feel thankful for our staff and for the privilege of fulfilling our mission to be an unparalleled source of information and insight in Denver. We’re aiming to raise $50,000 by December 31, so we can continue covering what matters most to this community.
Help us continue giving back to Denver.

$50,000

Hosted by the Silverton Mountain Ski Area in Colorado, The Beating is designed to be the “core” version of The Meeting held in Aspen each fall. Silverton Mountain, SOLRC (an outdoor education non-profit), Freeskier Magazine, and Snowboard Magazine have come together to give aspiring athletes and filmmakers The Beating – a chance to share their passion with skiers and riders across the world. The event will also help raise money for Silverton Mountain’s High School scholarship ski and snowboard program.

…and a video from Freeskier:

Winner Knight’s day job is with Felt Soul Media, which produced the award-winning documentary film Red Gold on environmental calamity on Alaska’s Bristol Bay. His prize: a heli-skiing drop in Silverton.
