And the winner for oddest yet most exhilarating cover of a song from a Colorado-based act is … Marina and the Diamonds, an act we were turned onto by Perez Hilton, of all people. We caught the group, signed to Alexandra Patsavas‘ Chop Shop imprint, a few months back at Hilton’s One Night In Austin party. Don’t remember much terribly impressed and thinking at the time — fittingly, as it turns out — Marina and her Diamonds weren’t all that memorable. But that was all before we saw this clip from BBC’s Radio 1 of the outfit transforming 3OH!3’s “Starstrukk” into a wistful, downcast and subsequently poignant ditty in a way that we’re certain was never intended. Listen to how Marina voice quivers ever so slightly as she sings the words, “L-O-V-E is just another word I’ll never learn to pronounce.”
