Best excuse for morphing your bar into a cocktail classroom? Females, according to James Lee, the beverage director of Big Red F Restaurant Group and the mixologist/owner of the Bitter Bar in Boulder. “Over the past few months, I’ve had an overwhelming number of females calling me with questions about cocktailing,” reveals Lee. “They all wanted recipes and advice about how to have a cocktail party at home, so we thought, why not have small gatherings at our bar, where we could teach people how to duplicate our cocktails in their own homes?”
And so today, Lee and bar manager Mark Stoddard will spill their cocktail secrets for the lucky students who sign up for Bitter Bar’s El Amor Cocktail Class, which will focus on Valentine’s Day-themed libations. “We like to keep the groups intimate and interactive, and we’ll make sure participants get to shake, stir, muddle and garnish with me behind the bar,” Lee promises. And not only will they learn how to concoct three cocktails, but they’ll also get to drink them. The ninety-minute class starts at 1:30 p.m. and costs $25, but that includes the recipes and a gift basket stocked with cool bar tools. For more info or to reserve your stool, dial 303-442-3050. Bitter Bar is at 835 Walnut Street in Boulder.
