With Oscar season in full swing, it’s time to wake up and smell the celluloid. And there’s no better way to get your fill of film than by attending the Boulder International Film Festival. Tonight through Sunday, this year’s BIFF will showcase some of today’s most compelling independent cinema. The centerpiece of the fest is The Lightkeepers, a romantic drama set in 1912 that stars beloved Hollywood veterans Richard Dreyfuss and Blythe Danner. Says BIFF jury president Neal Lemlein, “After seeing The Lightkeepers, I felt that its understated elegance and charm really embraced what the Boulder International Film Festival has come to represent: boldly independent filmmaking driven by great talent and overall presence. We really think The Lightkeepers will leave our audience abuzz on opening night and set the stage for our best festival ever.”
The Fest starts tonight at 6:30 p.m. with a red-carpet gala reception at the Boulder Theater, 2032 14th Street. It includes a screening of The Lightkeepers followed by a live question-and-answer session with Danner, writer/director Daniel Adams and producer Straw Weisman. Appetizers will be provided, as well as live music from famed local chanteuse Lannie Garrett. Admission to the gala is $50; weekend passes and tickets to individual screenings are also available.
