Perhaps it’s the pull of longer days and glorious nights that shuts down local stages in the summertime. But there are still places where you can catch a great musical or a dance performance when the heat of the day begins to subside. Here are our picks for this week.

Present Box.9: Ubuntu Boulder Museum of Contemporary Art 6:30 to 8 p.m. Thursday, June 26 Free
Candess Giyan and Daughter Cells Dance premiered this collaboration with Denver artist Sabin Aell last summer, selling out several performances at Hinterland Art Space with a traveling work that circled the building before entering Aell’s stunning gallery installation for the finale. Shoes and wind-up toys were also involved, but you really had to be there. And now you can: This summer, they’ve traveled to BMoCA for a free reprise in the BMoCA lounge and environs; there’s one performance left in Boulder on Thursday night.

Equinox Theatre Company Company: The Musical The Bug Theatre 7:30 p.m. Fridays and Saturdays, through July 19 Industry night, 7:30 p.m. Thursday, July 10 $20 to $25
One thing Deb Flomberg’s Equinox Theatre does very well is musicals, and especially Sondheim musicals. Company, the Broadway classic about the pros and cons of remaining unmarried, is Equinox’s summer confection; the show opens Friday and continues through July 19. Big song and dance: Relax, enjoy.
Visionbox: Chekhov on Santa Fe Drive Skylite Station, 910 ARTS 6:30 p.m. Sunday, June 29 Free
Ensemble members from the professional actors’ studio Visionbox will get serious on Sunday for an hour-long open rehearsal of scenes from Chekhov, Ibsen and Strindberg. The free event includes a cash bar and food from Nova catering before the show at 6 p.m., when you can get up close and personal with some of dramatic theater’s greatest scenes.
