Edge Gallery is one of the city’s longtime artist cooperatives, and as a non-profit institution, it needs to raise money from time to time to offset operating costs. “A lot of co-ops are raising their dues and adding on lots of new members, but we want to keep our month-long shows and our small membership,” explains Mark Brasuell, the group’s president. “So this year we decided to do a fundraiser, but we were turned off by the idea of doing a traditional auction. We decided to do something like eBay instead, where there’s a retail price, the lowest price someone would take, and a buy-it-now-price.”
EDGEbay, which has been going on for several weeks now, was organized by co-op members Linda Campbell, Heather Munoz-Billings and Susanne Mitchell. “They came up with the idea,” notes Brasuell, “but a bunch of other members were also involved. People don’t realize how much effort is involved in putting something like this together.” The final bidding party is this afternoon from 2 to 4 p.m. at Edge, 3568 Navajo Street; participants can get a $10 discount on purchases if they donate art supplies for the Kunsmiller Creative Arts Academy.
