The Colorado Department of
Transportation reopened the stretch of I-70 through Glenwood Canyon yesterday afternoon, with one lane of traffic in each direction, less than a week after a rock slide with boulders as big as 10 feet in diameter damaged and blocked the road on Monday. That’s good news for ski areas (Aspen’s 10th Annual Spring Jam is scheduled to begin next weekend March 19), truckers, and mountain communities, but we’d still advise against contributing to a massive ski traffic rush on I-70 anywhere West of Glenwood Canyon.

CDOT crews have opened I-70 through Glenwood Canyon in both
directions. Traffic is reduced to one lane in each direction and will
remain like this until long-term repairs can be completed in the coming
weeks/months. The speed limit has been reduced to 40 MPH and load over
14-feet wide are restricted from traveling through the work area. CDOT
wants to thank motorists and impacted communities for their patience
during this time. More information to come tomorrow afternoon on repair
plans.
