The Denver Rock ’n’ Roll Marathon and Half Marathon sold out weeks ago, which means you can spare yourself the sweaty pretense of jogging and skip straight to the rock and roll: Thirty local bands will take up their instruments along the route, starting at 6:55 a.m. with Double Down at Mile 1.4 and ending with Fierce Bad Rabbit and the Delta Sonics at Mile 25.7.
“I’m excited to see the Denver event really take root,” says manager Shannon Davis. “Denver has a huge, huge music scene and a tremendous community of athletes, and we’ve really tapped into both.” She recommends that spectators find a good spot near the start/finish line at Civic Center Park or at one of the three transition points — City, Cheesman and Washington parks — for the pass-the-drumstick relay. “We’ve got a lot of entertainment in store, with bands along every mile, a lot of fanfare in the parks, and cheerleaders from all the local high schools along the route to help keep the runners moving.”
The day concludes with a performance by Semisonic at the finish-line party at Civic Center Park. Visit denver.competitor.com/
