With a big voice and even bigger ambitions, Xiren (pronounced Seer-in) has wasted no time making a name for himself in the Mile High City and beyond since relocating from Detroit in 1996. Known off-stage as Daryl Kenny, the singer sports an eclectic style and a soaring tenor that makes Steve Perry sound butch. His current ambient-pop CD, Bullets and Rainbows, is receiving national airplay and inviting comparisons to the music of Sting, Peter Gabriel and U2. On the local front, the artist has built a large and loyal following by playing everywhere from Colorado Springs’s Acoustic Coffee Lounge to the Iliff Park Saloon. Backed by a six-piece band including co-producer and arranger Ben Jansen of Opie Gone Bad, Xiren performs Friday, April 26, at the Soiled Dove. Just don’t call him Siren.
