Today is Local News Day

It’s going to be hot today in Denver. Damned hot. Too hot. Thinking of going for a run today? Forget it, you’ll kill yourself out there. Thankfully Aquaman is coming to the rescue. “Aquaman, here in landlocked Colorado?” Yes, Aquaman.
You see, Colorado didn’t come to have the lowest obesity rate in the nation for nothing: When it gets so hot that people in those 49 chubbier states would just crank up the AC, pull up some Biggest Loser reruns On Demand and plop down on the couch with a pint of Ben & Jerry’s, that’s when Coloradoans say to themselves: “I’m going to go jump in the Cherry Creek Reservoir for a two-mile swim, then run a 5K.” See why tonight when Without Limits Productions brings its Aquaman Open Water Swim Series to Cherry Creek State Park’s Smoky Hill Beach.
Open registration is $20 from 5:15-6:00 p.m., and swim options on the 750m loop include half-mile, mile, 1.5-mile, and 2-mile courses; stick with the swim (like we said: it’s going to be hot out there) or follow it up with a 5K if you’re training for this weekend’s Steamboat Lake Sprint Triathlon.
