The thin fragility and immediacy of her voice helps to forgive the predictability that surrounds most of the arrangements. Boosted by Nat Yarbrough on drums, Mark Diamond on bass and a small army playing the aforementioned instruments (among others), McCown connects best on the tune “My Heroes” and on the unique instrumentation of “Reaching Time (reprise).”
