Growing plants in a Denver apartment can seem like an impossible task — but it doesn’t have to be. Writer Gayla Trail visits the Denver Botanic Gardens today to talk about creating a garden in even the tiniest living quarters with tips from her new book, Grow Great Grub: Organic Food From Small Spaces.
“For an urban town such as Denver, where people are kind of working with what they have in terms of growing gardens in small spaces, it’s going to be a really interesting talk,” explains DBG program manager Sarah Olson.
Trail’s talk begins at 7 p.m. and will be followed by a book signing of her newest release as well as 2005’s You Grow Girl: The Groundbreaking Guide to Gardening.
Tickets are $15 for members, $20 for non-members and $10 for students. But for an extra $10, would-be gardeners can go on a 6 p.m. tour of edible plants that are especially easy to grow in small spaces. And for aspiring scribes, Trail will teach a two-hour workshop starting at 10 a.m. on July 1 titled “Finding Your Voice as a Garden Writer.” The class, notes Olson, is “a really inexpensive way to get a really cool education directly from the source.”
