Last weekend, zombies filled downtown. This weekend, it was gorillas — 1,200 of them, all participating in the eighth annual 5K Gorilla Run, which benefits the Denver-based Mountain Gorilla Conservation Fund. That’s more runners than there are mountain gorillas left in the wild.

The event raised an estimated $90,000, but the fundraising — and fun — isn’t over.

Order Silverback Pale Ale at the Wynkoop Brewing Company, where runners checked in for the race through LoDo Saturday, and 50 percent of the proceeds go to the Mountain Gorilla Conservation Fund, just as they did with the Wynkoop’s earlier Silverback Smoked Porter. But the pale ale has an added benefit: It’s also available in cans.
