Independent Journalism in Denver Needs You
We need to raise $25,000 by August 9 to support the reporting our community depends on. Reader support keeps us independent and is playing a larger role in funding local journalism and shaping what comes next. If you believe independent local journalism matters, make a contribution today.
Not to split hairs, but style shows are becoming old hat in Denver. So with Konsepsyon, the Parlour’s design team set out to cut a different path. “We wanted to give back to the community, and we wanted to work with a charity relevant to our industry,” explains design team member Brooke Schoenborn. Enter amfAR, an organization that has spent the last two and a half decades supporting AIDS research — and not just AIDS awareness, a distinction that was a key factor in choosing the charity as the beneficiary.
Hosted by Chris Parente, Konsepsyon will pair the Parlour’s innovative hair designs with clothing designs from such local fashion boutiques as Garbarini, Goldyn, the Woods and Alicia. A VIP pre-party starts at 5:30 p.m., with drinks and hors d’oeuvres provided by Strings; general admission is at 6:30. The fashion and hair show will take the stage at 7:30 p.m., performances by Joshua Novak and DJ Mike Disco will be spread throughout the evening, and the party will end with a performance by Snake Rattle Rattle Snake. “We started stalking Snake Rattle Rattle Snake last year,” Schoenborn jokes, adding that the inclusion of Parente was a fantasy come true for the Konsepsyon crew.
Tonight, Konsepsyon will fill Mile High Station, 2027 West Colfax Avenue; tickets are $25 to $200, and available at any Parlour location or visit http://theparlour.net.
