The 2012 Slam Nuba slam poetry team has a big reputation to uphold when it heads to Charlotte on August 7 for this year’s National Slam Poetry Meet: It’s a new and differently configured team that will be defending the group’s 2011 first-place title.

But have no fear: Jovan Mays, Kenya Mahogany Pollard, Jozer Guerrero, Alejandro Jimenez and Suzi Q. Smith have been hard at work preparing, and they’ll be sharing a sneak peek at the words they’ll unleash in North Carolina at tonight’s weekly Slam Nuba session, which will double as a send-off party.

See for yourself why Denver is such a slammeriffic city: Smith says the team will be showing off new, never-heard work and more, beginning at 7:30 p.m. at the Crossroads Theater. Visit the Facebook event page for information; for more about the national competition, go to the NPS website.
