Forget tulips: The new harbingers of spring in Denver are big red bikes. The B-cycle program will return for its third year tomorrow. But Denver Bike Sharing, the nonprofit that operates the program, wants you to help distribute some of the organization’s 520 bikes today at the 2012 Launch Party & Ride. Show up at B-cycle’s Larimer Street headquarters, grab a bike and ride it to any one of 52 stations.
“It’s a good opportunity to bring people together in the community and have fun and get riding to start the season,” says Denver Bike Sharing spokesman Ben Turner. B-cycle closed out the season in a similar fashion last December.
The offices will open at 11 a.m., and riders will head out at noon. But before that happens, there will be brunch foods, drinks from Honest Tea, music and a group photo. And although anyone can participate — not just B-cycle members — Turner points out that Denver Bike Sharing will be selling memberships at the office that day (annual memberships are $80, but you can pay for individual rides, too).
