The Cherry Creek Sneak marks its thirtieth anniversary today, and the iconic race will attract close to 10,000 runners of all skill levels. Over the years, the Sneak has added races for walkers, sprinters, visually impaired participants and even toddlers. To celebrate its birthday, it will tack on a new one this year: a 10K. “The sport of running has evolved since the race started in the ’80s, seeing a demand for longer distances,” says spokeswoman Kim DeLashmit.
The 10K was designed with the cityscape in mind, taking advanced runners down historic Seventh Avenue and around Cheesman Park. Runners are also encouraged to dress up and participate in an all-race costume contest at the post-run block party. The celebration will begin shortly after the first race kicks off at 7:45 a.m., offering free beer to runners of age and inviting racers and bystanders alike to eat, drink and play at the free block-party blowout.
Registration begins at 7 a.m. today at the corner of First Avenue and Steele Street, or prior to the event at designated Sports Authority stores, or via www.cherrycreaksneak.com. Registration is $20 to $45. Go to the website for a full list of race times and registration prices.
