As the weather heats up, Colorado Rockies baseball games will get more intense, and the beginning of this season’s interleague play should only help.
The team will face their first American League opponents, the Seattle Mariners, tonight as part of a three-game series at Coors Field. The Rockies take on the AL teams from a different division every year, and this year it is primarily the AL West. The Los Angeles Angels of Anaheim and the Oakland A’s will be in town in June, while the Rocks will hit the road to play against the Detroit Tigers and the Texas Rangers.
“[Interleague play] still adds intrique and excitement to our schedule,” says Rockies spokesman Jay Alves. “Fans of clubs that live in Denver that we might see every four or five years have the opportunity to see their team play at Coors Field. That brings a different level of excitement and energy to our park.”
It also brings some of the MLB stars we’re not used to seeing, like Albert Pujols, Jared Weaver, Bartolo Colon and Ichiro Suzuki, not to mention former Rocks who still deserve a little love, like Brian Fuentes, Seth Smith and Chris Ianetta.
