For their fourteenth annual Aerial Dance Festival, Boulder’s Frequent Flyers will once again bring the best of aerial dancing from around the world to Colorado. In fact, the dancers are what Frequent Flyers founder and artistic director Nancy Smith calls “locally grown and internationally flown.” While the festival consists of two weeks of immersion into aerial dancing, the most informative and involved performance, Intimate Encounters, attracts the most attention.
“Artists have the opportunity in a really up-close-and-personal way to talk about and demonstrate their art,” notes Smith. “The audience gets to see this up close and ask questions. Every year, something exciting happens and the audience is moved or inspired by what they learn…. We put Boulder and Colorado on the map as a locus and central place for aerial dance.”
Intimate Encounters starts tonight at 8 p.m. in the Charlotte York Irey Theatre at the University of Colorado at Boulder. Tickets are $7 at the door, cash or check only. The festival continues with more workshops and performances through August 11; for information and registration, call 303-245-8272 or visit www.frequentflyers.org.
