The Emerging Filmmakers Project at the Bug Theatre, one of our first MasterMind winners, has been spotlighting the work of local filmmakers for ten years now. But even so, says Eileen Agosta, program director for Colorado Independent Women of Film, “I don’t know that a lot of people outside the film community are aware of how much goes on here.”
And so she and Patrick Sheridan, the Bug’s marketing director, co-founded the Colorado Independent Women of Film program as a way to showcase the efforts of local women working in film. “There are a lot of women doing a lot of great things out there,” she says, “and we wanted to hear about filmmaking from their perspective.” Tonight they’ll introduce a three-day festival dedicated to those women. The fest, which will feature about thirty films, opens with Packed, a short documentary by Mary Ann Williamson about wildfire evacuees and their possessions; other showings include The Necklace, by award-winning filmmaker MaryLee Herrmann, and Sarah Lofti’s Waking Eyes. All of the filmmakers featured during the festival will be on hand to discuss their work after the screenings.
Tickets are $10 per block of films ($5 for students); a pass for all three days costs $15. All showings are at the Bug, 3654 Navajo Street; to see the full schedule or purchase tickets, go to www.bugtheatre.org or call 303-477-9984.
