The challenges facing local news organizations are very real. That's why reader support matters more than ever. If you believe independent journalism matters, make a contribution today and help us reach our summer fundraising goal of $25,000 by August 9.

$25,000

The mission of Sleep Tight Colorado is simple: Meredith Gershberg raises funds to purchase sleeping bags for the homeless. She launched the organization in honor of an aunt who did similar work with friends in New York City. “But she never formed a formal non-profit, so I took it to the next level for Denver,” Gershberg says. “We went public with Sleep Tight Colorado in January of 2011 and have donated 330 sleeping bags to date.”

Today’s second annual 5K Pajama Jog will raise funds to purchase more bags; last year’s inaugural run covered the cost of 65 of them. Wear your pajamas to City Park today to join in the jog or just to watch (there will be prizes for costumes). Check-in runs from 8 to 8:30 a.m., and the race starts at 8:45. Registration is $30 (advance registration closed August 16); for details, go to sleeptightcolorado.org
