Based on its name alone, you might expect Dead Orchids (due at the hi-dive this Thursday, April 4) to be some heavy, dark, eyeliner-sporting band. Instead, the outfit plays a blend of blues rock, hard rock and smoky psychedelia. The music is familiar from years past, but the act has created its own sound from the roots of its influences. This is rock and roll music for a motorcycle gang, if said hooligans were into the Cult and Kyuss rather than Skynyrd and Ted Nugent (not that those influences are mutually exclusive). This show marks the release of Dead Orchid’s latest album of sin-haunted boogie.
