$20,000

Atomic Tamale landed on the list of our top ten vegetarian meals of 2011, and the tiny spot on Santa Fe Drive was always packed (especially on Sundays, when free vegan menudo was offered up with entrees), selling tamales by the singles and dozens. But as with Denver Seitan Company, while the product was premium, the permitting wasn’t quite 100 percent. And Atomic closed in January when the city rejected a permit application.

But get ready for Atomic to explode on the scene again.

The new version of Atomic Tamale will open at 11 a.m. today in a brand-new location, 1450 Carr Street in Lakewood. But the tamales should be as amazing as ever: five kinds, some vegetarian, some vegan.

And here’s the best news of all: Atomic will be serving free menudo on Sunday!

Atomic Tamale plans to be open from 11 a.m. to 8 p.m. seven days a week. Call 720-242-5818 for more information — and stay tuned for a look at the new digs next week.
