Throughout its nearly three-year run, GroundSwell Gallery has encouraged artists to embark on solo projects that might not otherwise grace gallery walls. Starting tonight, it’s design-oriented creative Andrew Hoffman’s chance to stretch with Watershed, the result of a year-long experiment for which he painted all of the included works simultaneously, adding layers upon layers as the weeks passed. Though Hoffman says he didn’t exactly set out on the process-based project with a distinct plan, it evolved into an exercise in our shifting interpretations of images over time. “During this process, the paintings became a part of my routine, my pattern,” Hoffman explains. “They stopped representing images, stopped being paintings and became everyday objects — a confluence of art and life.”
