Few art festivals get to have an inaugural year twice, but in the case of the Denver Arts Festival, Mother Nature made it happen: Originally scheduled to debut last September at Sloan’s Lake Park, the big fest folded before it even started, due to last fall’s flood-inducing rains across the Front Range. Event director Danna Tullis has her fingers crossed that this year’s try will go off as planned, after moving the date up to August and — we can only assume — haggling in private with the sun gods.
You’ll find booths featuring approximately 75 artists, as well as food vendors and trucks, a concert with Chuck Pyle, and even a fast-paced K-9s for a Cause performing-dog show. “We want families to feel like they can bring their children and introduce them to the world of fine art,” notes Tullis. “And we’ve selected art in a wide price range, so it’s really something for everyone.”
Cruise the Denver Arts Festival from 9:30 a.m. to 7 p.m. today and 9:30 a.m. to 3 p.m. tomorrow on the south end of Sloan’s Lake Park, Sheridan Boulevard and West 17th Avenue. Admission is free; for details, go to coloradoeventsandfestivals.com.
