Highland Tap and Burger didn’t just take over the space that once held Panaderia Guadalajara. It’s also swallowed up the spot next door at 2223 West 32nd Avenue that had been occupied by Aztec Sol.

The tequila bar had a selection of tequila as impressive as the setting was modest — painted cement floors, a handful of rickety tables and a couple of very sketchy bathrooms. Still, it enjoyed decade-long run in the neighborhood (read Marty Jones’s great 2002 story here), and we’ll miss being able to walk through the door and feel like we’d just stepped into a bar in a border town — a south of the border town.

Kevin Eddy, who owns Spill Lounge, is one of the three partners behind Highland Tap and Burger; watch for it to open by the end of the month. Watch for Highland Tap and Burger, to open at the end of the month.
