When a golfing oil baron masquerades as a national leader, someone’s got to do something to help out the folks in Louisiana and Mississippi. Now transformed into a benefit for hurricane relief, the End of Summer Outlaw Music Festival, slated for Saturday, September 10, at the Ogden Theatre, has broadened its scope to appeal to more than just roots and alt-country fans. Along with headlining act the Utah County Swillers and the Highland Mountain Boys (pictured), the lineup will include a pair of punkier sets from the robot-costumed Un-Earthly and Codename: Trixie. American Relay, 3 Miles West and the gospel-friendly Jon Prophet have also been added to a bill that boasts Rollergirls, Hooters babes and a drink special or two. With the birthplace of jazz immersed in death, sewage and heartache, the Gulf Coast’s nightmare scenario won’t change overnight. But with grassroots festivals like this one, at least there’s a glimmer of hope.
