Be careful when you search for Sugar House. If you want the restaurant at 1395 West Alameda Avenue, which touts its big burgers — and calls itself the “sweet spot” for lunch and happy hour — you want the Sugar House Grill.. If you want the nightclub in the same space, you want sugerhouselounge.com. And if you’re a young lady or part of a couple looking for a “fun and sexy Saturday night,” complete with hotel suites at, yes, the same address, you want this.
The Sugar House home page even notes that “Sugar House nightclub in Denver has two different websites serving specific customers,” and suggests you choose an option.
Carefully.
All of these enterprises are brought to you by Scottie Ewing, whose Sugar empire isn’t looking too sweet right now.
The feds have charged Ewing with one count of failing to report income “related to the operation and sale of a prostitution business” he owned in 2005 and 2006.
That was the Sindicate, which ran a swingers’ club in northwest Denver before the landlord and neighbors complained. His next project? The Sugar House, and although neighbors complained about that project, too, he got the restaurant/club/hotel/who knows what open restaurant/club/hotel/who knows what openin August 2007.
