I headed over to the South Pearl Street Farmers’ Market on Sunday, and guess whose smoke and sizzle stopped me dead in my tracks? That of Biker Jim Pittenger and his wiener wagon. As Jason Sheehan reported back in June, Jim has added a second downtown cart at 17th and California, making the lines at his original cart at 16th and Arapahoe somewhat shorter, but not really.

And now, after spending last summer hawking dogs at the Cherry Creek Farmers’ Market on Saturday, Jim is doing his thing on South Pearl Street every Sunday from 8 a.m. until around 2:30 p.m. And while he was doing a bustling business (the crazy-good peasant dogs were huge sellers) during yesterday’s scorcher, there were no thirty-minute queues — which means that I’ve just found my new Sunday lunch spot. At least until the end of October, which is when the market pulls up its roots until next year.
