At 5 p.m. today, the Wynkoop Brewing Company will pull the hand pump on the 2010 Beerdrinker of the Year beer, one of the perks of winning this august crown.

The beer is Auld Rabbit, a cask-conditioned, molasses-infused brown ale that’s 6.4 percent ABV, brewed by Wynkoop head brewer Andy Brown and the 2009 Beerdrinker of the Year, Cody Christman. “The result is a complex beer with subtle sweetness, caramel flavors and a restrained smokiness imparted by the molasses,” says beerman Marty Jones, who should know.

Auld Rabbit will be available for the next few weeks, through the Beerdrinker of the Year Finals at 2 p.m. on February 27 — and like Christman, one of the finalists, Logan Perkins, is a hometown hero.

Also now on tap at the Wynkoop: Russian River’s legendary Damnation, a fresh batch of Mile HiPA — “our luscious American-style IPA” — and “a sticky, gooey, impeccably balanced double IPA called Mister Fister that is brimming with hop flavor and aroma,” Jones promises.
