Our post about Boulder’s moratorium on medical marijuana businesses featured a quote from senior city attorney Kathy Haddock suggesting that analysis was necessary to determine if retail areas in the city have too many MMCs. Below, a reader uses Haddock’s words as a rhetorical prompt before providing an answer critical of the city’s approach.
Dancin writes:
“We need time to analyze the impact of medical marijuana taking up all the industrial space in the city.”Why? If they take up all the space and there is demand for more, the owners of that space will raise their rents likely to the point that the grow operations will have to move out of the city, freeing it up. Government is the worst and least efficient decider of which businesses should be allowed to operate.
