Businesses tend to steer clear of politics when it comes to advertising for fear of alienating potential customers.

Granted, there are a few exceptions — like, say, the new Rocky’s Autos spot that makes fun of Donald Trump’s hair.

Yet we were still surprised that Frontier Airlines would take an apparent swipe at Democratic presidential front-runner Hillary Clinton to promote its latest low-cost deal.

The offer itself, which hypes one-way fares starting at $25, seems entirely nonpartisan. But the subject of the e-mail sent out to folks on the carrier’s list yesterday seems like a reference to the ongoing controversy over Clinton’s e-mails, and particularly her reported deletion of 30,000-plus messages from a server maintained by a company right here in Denver.

The subject line reads, “Confidential: Don’t Delete This Email.”

Amusing? Probably to about half the electorate, give or take a few percentage points.

Look below to see a screen capture of the e-mail sent our way — and then, just for fun, that Rocky’s Autos ad.
