With Dismember the Alamo, a four-movie marathon of undisclosed films, the Alamo Drafthouse Cinema is aiming to re-create that feeling of discovery and joy that came from surfing late-night TV for horror in the pre-digital days.
“When we came up with this concept, we wanted to go back to when I was growing up,” explains Keith Garcia, creative manager for the Alamo Drafthouse Denver. “Halloween was so exciting, because it seemed to be the time that [TV programmers] would be like, ‘Well, it’s time for a horror movie, so let’s just put that movie on.’ You just never knew if you were going to see a movie you’d never seen before, or if some old favorite would pop up.”
To that end, Garcia has handpicked a quartet of classics from horror’s golden years — the end of the ’70s through the mid-’80s — that includes everything from a creature feature to slashers. Throw in a special guest tied to one of the films, along with contests throughout the night, and you have horror-movie heaven.
The program starts at 5 p.m. tonight at the Alamo, 7301 South Santa Fe Drive in Littleton. For tickets, $20, and more info, visit drafthouse.com/denver.
